Aqaba Development Corporation & Globally Renowned MAERSK Training Conclude 1st Pilot of Leadership Training in Aqaba

June 22, 2023: Aqaba, Jordan – Following the signing of an MoU between Maersk Training and Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), at Maersk Training's offices in Dubai, earlier in May 2023, which aims at working towards developing and launching a Center of Excellence in Aqaba that will support the upskilling of Jordanian workers and building international standard competencies in the areas of Safety, Leadership, Crisis Management, and logistics-related training. Maersk Training and ADC kicked off the first leadership training module this week in Aqaba.

Forty-three senior members of leading entities within the Aqaba logistics, manufacturing and public sectors attended the “Leading with Care” training programme. The pilot module focuses on training leaders to drive a safety culture of high performance and building organizational safety and resilience.

During the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of leaders, the CEO of Aqaba Development Corporation, H.E. Hussein Safadi, said: “The goal for establishing the Center of Excellence in Aqaba is to become a regional training hub that provides Jordan and neighboring countries with highly skilled talents and industry leaders.”, H.E. added: “these short-term pilot programs constitute the nucleus for the establishment of Aqaba Center of Excellence to support and develop the capabilities of Jordanian labor and human resources and build the international competencies in the areas of safety, leadership, crisis management and training related to various industries.”

H.E. extended a special appreciation and thanks to the companies that sponsored and supported the “Leading with Care” training sessions and attributed the success of these specialized courses to their support. The sponsors included the Aqaba Container Terminal, Jordan Phosphate Mines, Arab Potash Company and Arab Bridge Maritime Company. Mr. Vijay Rangachari, the Global Head of Growth and Strategic Projects at Maersk Training, stated: "with the support of ADC and the local community we have successfully taken the first step in our MOU, and delivered the first training program in Aqaba based on market needs; “Leading with Care”. The positive responses and feedback will set the foundation for providing more offerings in the future.
