Aqaba Development Corporation Concludes Specialized
Workshop by Maersk Training to Improve Operational Efficiency at Aqaba Oil and
LPG Terminal
Aqaba, 2 July 2026
Aqaba Development
Corporation concluded a specialized workshop aimed at improving operational
efficiency and increasing the effective capacity of the Aqaba Oil and LPG
Terminal.
The workshop was
organized by ADC in cooperation with Maersk Training from 30 June to 2 July
2026, with the participation of senior representatives from relevant public and
private sector entities.
The first day
included a joint GEMBA site visit to the terminal and related stakeholder
facilities. Participants observed the operational process directly, engaged
with the relevant entities, and identified the principal challenges,
bottlenecks, and potential root causes affecting vessel berthing and terminal
performance.
The workshop
sessions were held at the Aqaba National Vocational Training (ANVT) Complex and
focused on reviewing the operational, technical, and coordination factors
contributing to vessel berthing delays at the Oil and LPG Terminal. The
sessions also examined the resulting operational and financial impacts,
including demurrage costs, and identified practical measures to improve berth
utilization, reduce waiting times, and strengthen coordination among
stakeholders.
Through the Lean A3
methodology, participants mapped the current vessel handling process,
identified the root causes of delays, agreed on priority interventions, and
developed an implementation plan with clear actions, owners, timelines, and
measurable performance indicators.
Hussein Safadi,
Chief Executive Officer of Aqaba Development Corporation, said, “This program
supports ADC’s efforts to improve operational efficiency, strengthen
stakeholder coordination, and build institutional capacity. We value our
partnership with Maersk Training and the wider Maersk Group in advancing
Aqaba’s role as a regional logistics and maritime hub.”
Vijay Rangachari,
Managing Director, AMEA for Maersk Training said, “Over the last few years, we
have been actively collaborating with ADC to support various stakeholders
within Aqaba. We are supporting with institutionalizing continuous improvements
and leadership excellence through long term partnership approach. We are
grateful for this opportunity to support with the nationally critical
initiative at Aqaba Oil and LPG Terminal."
Per Strandbygaard,
TWI & Lean Master Trainer at Maersk Training, said, “This is just the first
step on an exciting journey for ADC. Integrating Lean tools into an
organization does more than optimize processes. It helps building in a mindset
to improve daily performance. Lean also gives teams the skill in solving
operational problems, finding the root cause and eliminating waste, creating a
strong foundation for sustainable, continuous improvements. - I’m excited to
follow ADC’s Lean journey and see how this transformation will create value for
the organization, partners, and stakeholders in the future.”
Improving
operational coordination across the Oil and LPG Terminal is an immediate
priority. Practical efficiency gains can be achieved through improved process
alignment, stronger stakeholder coordination, and focused execution ahead of
any longer-term infrastructure expansion.
The workshop was
implemented with the participation of ADC, Maersk Training, the Energy and
Minerals Regulatory Commission, Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and
Management, Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, Jordan Oil Terminals Company,
TotalEnergies, Jordan Petroleum Products Marketing Company, Manaseer Oil &
Gas, and other key sector stakeholders.
