Aqaba's gateway to the world
Driven by a Royal vision to position Aqaba as a global tourism and business hub, Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) is leading the expansion and operational upgrade of King Hussein International Airport (KHIA) through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investment tender. As the primary gateway to Aqaba and the closest airport to Petra and Wadi Rum, KHIA serves a growing passenger market that reached 285,000 air travelers in 2023 out of 2.16 million total city visitors, approaching its 2019 pre-pandemic peak of 305,000 passengers.
With the current terminal operating near its 400,000 peak annual capacity, this PPP opportunity aims to modernize facilities, increase capacity, and support an expanding flight network that currently includes 17 weekly domestic flights to Amman, direct regional service to Abu Dhabi and Istanbul, and air routes connecting 26 European destinations. Beyond upgrading aviation infrastructure, the project anchors a growing cluster of landmark commercial, retail, and hospitality developments rising across the airport's southern lands.
